Applique Printing

Appliqué is a specialized form of embroidery that can be requested for your projects. This technique involves attaching pre-cut fabric pieces by stitching around their edges with a satin stitch. It has gained significant popularity among schools, and we have successfully implemented this method for institutions such as Sir Winston Churchill Secondary, BCIT, and SFU. Recently, an increasing number of companies have also begun to adopt this favored printing technique.

Applique Colours Available

Appliqué printing allows you to select both the fabric color and the thread colour. You can choose from a variety of colours for the pre-cut fabric pieces used in the process. For available thread colour options, please refer to our embroidery stock colours here.

Applique Printing Benefits

Varsity-Styled Aesthetic with Appliqué Printing

- Appliqué printing is an excellent choice for achieving a varsity-styled look on your garments. This technique is commonly used on hoodies and crewneck sweatshirts, providing a classic and sporty appearance.

Traditional Use in Varsity Designs

- Appliqué is a favored and traditional method for creating varsity-styled block letters. It is frequently seen in Greek wear and among university organizations, making it a popular choice for those looking to embody school spirit.

High Durability

- Much like traditional embroidery, appliqué printing is a high-quality method that results in a durable and long-lasting print. This ensures that your designs will withstand wear and maintain their appearance over time.

Applique Printing Limitations

Optimal Use of Appliqué Printing

- Appliqué works best on large elements. Due to the nature of the technique, it is most effective for larger designs, such as large fonts. For example, university clubs often utilize appliqué to prominently display their school acronyms, like UBC, SFU, and BCIT, on the front of their garments.

Cost Considerations

- Appliqué printing is generally more expensive than regular embroidery. This is because appliqué involves a multi-step process, which increases production costs. If cost-saving is a priority, direct embroidery may be a more economical option to consider.

Applique Printing Care Instructions

Washing Guidelines: Cold Water, inside out

Drying Guidelines: Hang dry, or low tumble dry. If the applique gets caught on a sharp object like a zipper, it may cause the letters to tear.

Iron: Do not iron the applique logo directly. Flip the garment inside out and avoid any steaming features.

Bleach + Dry Cleaning: We recommend staying away from these options!
