Screen Printing

Screen printing is a time-tested technique for apparel printing that has been used for many years. While the fundamentals of the process remain the same, it continues to deliver reliable results. At our facility, we utilize both automatic and manual screen printing equipment. More than 80% of our clients opt for screen printing because it’s an affordable option for large orders and produces vibrant, high-quality prints.

The process involves pressing ink through a specially prepared screen, allowing the ink to pass through certain areas to form the desired design. Below, we outline some of the key advantages and limitations of screen printing.

Screen Printing Benefits

Screen printing offers numerous advantages, which is why it remains one of the most widely used printing techniques today.

Screen printing produces bold, vibrant colours

- One of the standout features of screen printing is its ability to create bright, eye-catching colours. Unless a vintage look is specifically requested, we typically apply a white under base beneath all prints to ensure maximum colour vibrancy.

Cost-effective for larger orders

- Screen printing becomes a highly economical choice when producing large quantities, making it ideal for bulk orders.

Durability and long-lasting results

- Screen prints are built to endure. After passing through our conveyor dryer, each print is fully cured, ensuring it’s ready to be worn, washed, and used over and over again.

Screen Printing Limitations

While screen printing is an excellent choice for many projects, there are some limitations that may make other printing methods more suitable.

Screen printing on the entire surface of a shirt

- Since screen printing requires a flat surface, it cannot be applied over seams or in areas that aren’t flat, which makes "all-around printing" impossible. For full-coverage designs, we recommend using sublimation instead.

Maximum screen print size

The largest print size we can accommodate is 12 x 14 inches.

Screen Printing more than 8 colours

Screen printing is limited to a maximum of 8 colors per design due to machine constraints. If your design exceeds this color limit, DFT (Direct Film Transfer) or sublimation would be more appropriate.

More expensive for small orders

Because screen printing requires a detailed setup process, it’s typically not cost-effective for small quantities. For example, printing a single shirt with designs on both the front and back could cost up to $100. For smaller orders, DFT printing is a more economical choice.

Puff Screen Printing - Specialty on Request

Puff screen printing is experiencing a resurgence in popularity. By incorporating a puff additive into the ink, we can create a raised, textured effect in your screen print design.

Screen Printing Care Instructions

To help maintain the vibrant look and durability of your custom screen-printed apparel, we suggest following these care tips:

Washing Guidelines:

- Water Temperature: Use cold water when washing your garments. This helps prevent the ink from fading and keeps the design intact.

- Inside Out: Turn your clothes inside out before washing. This protects the printed surface from friction during the wash cycle.

- Detergent Choice: Choose a mild detergent, as strong chemicals can cause the ink to break down, leading to fading or cracking.

Drying Guidelines:

- Best Method: Air dry your garments whenever possible. Hanging them to dry minimizes heat damage and shrinkage.

- Alternative Option: If using a dryer, keep the garment inside out and set the dryer to a low heat setting to protect the print.

Ironing Instructions:

- Avoid Direct Heat: Do not iron directly over the screen-printed design. The heat can cause the print to melt or distort.

- Safe Ironing: If ironing is necessary, turn the garment inside out and iron on the reverse side of the print to avoid damaging it.

Following these care recommendations will help preserve the quality of your screen-printed apparel for years. We are dedicated to providing high-quality products and ensuring you have the right information to care for your custom items.
